Paying attention
On Thursday May 7 there was an accident on I-65 north just below Shepherdsville,Ky. There were two tour busses and a van that had pulled over to the shoulder of the road due to mechanical issues. As in most states Kentucky has a move over law for law enforcement vechicles when they have a vehicle pulled over. Now common sense will tell you that is a pretty good law to havenot just for law enforcement but for any one who is on the side of the road. Now I am not one to advocate pulling over on the shoulder for any reason other than the fact that it may be your only choice. How many times have we been on the shoulder broke down and cars and trucks go driving by inches from your truck or car refusing to move over or not being able to move over. According to reports this accident happened arond four a.m. when there is not a lot of traffic on the road. This driver did not move over and side swiped all three vehicles and causing his truck to catch fire. He suffered a couple of broken ribs, a broken knee, and minor cuts and bruises. Luckily no one in the other vehicles were injured. Traffic was backed up for miles, the road closed for about eight hours all because some one either sleepy or just not thinking didnot move over. I have been out here for quite a number of years and no I do not know everything there is out here and I do make a mistsake now and then. One of the first things I did learn aboutwhen learning to drive was to move over for vehicles on the shoulder because it was common sense to do so and also courtesy to the one on the side of the road. The trouble is that now there are too many people who do not watch traffic signs or other signs out there on the road. I hope this driver has learned a valuable lesson and some how will make him a little wiser from this experience. Just a thought.
